Esme Patterson new album “We Were Wild” out today

Once wild but never tamed, today the indomitable Esme Patterson releases her new album We Were Wild.

And true to the album’s title the sound is rowdy and rambunctious – almost feral folk music. If a line exists between the genres of folk, country, and pop, Patterson not only expertly ignores it but two-steps across it. The result is a deliciously cathartic clamor, which allowed Patterson to explore subjects like self-awareness and lost love in a manner that is as accessible as it is addicting.

But there’s nothing bubbelgum about this album. Noisey called it “pop with claws” and these tracks will tear into your mind and nest there all day. Give it a listen with the link above. And if you want to get yourself this album on vinyl–because why wouldn’t you–head on over to our store.

Mothers share “Copper Mines” music video

We’re sort of old, so our own memories of getting our wisdom teeth yanked are a bit fuzzy. Luckily the internet is a playground filled with YouTube videos of kids awaking from drug-induced slumbers, cheeks fat like chipmunks, convinced that they’re adopted, or that they just got back from Dubai and it was “lit.”

In the video for Mothers’ “Copper Mines” – imagined, filmed and edited by Ryan Ohm, Jackson James and the Weird Life Films team – we get to see a full day’s worth of disorientation and wooziness that’s pretty well encapsulated by the thumbnail below. Watch for yourself, then go see this band at one of the forty-nine festivals they’re playing this summer.

NE-HI share new single “Buried On The Moon”

Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, meet our newest signing, NE-HI.

If you were listening to Zane Lowe’s show on Beats1 a few minutes ago, you may have caught the world premiere of their new single, “Buried On The Moon” – a jangly, spit-shined slab of guitar rock worship and wonderfully-ramshackle melody. Oh, you missed it? Well, don’t worry: just press play below.

And if the name already sounds familiar, it should. These Chicago boys are currently out with our very own @twinpeaksdudes on the Down In Heaven Tour. You can check the GJ tour section for a full accounting of their sure-to-debaucherous journey across the USofA. Get tickets, and join us in welcoming these guys to the party.

Twin Peaks share “Butterfly” music video

Between a new album, a new tour, a sold-out show in Chicago, and celebrating 4/20 in May – it’s been a busy few days for the @twinpeaksdudes. So busy in fact that the boys released a new video for their popped-up track “Butterly” and we forgot to post about it. Oops. So ICYMI too we posted the video here. Give it a watch. Like any good cinematic experience there’s suspense, blood, and Clay’s naked butt.

Twin Peaks new album “Down In Heaven” out today

LADIES AND GENTLEMEN OF THE INTERWEB!! Today Twin Peaks bless us with their latest album Down In Heaven and 13 heavy-hitting tracks. This album is tightly crafted and will certainly take you places – all over the place actually in the best way.

There’s a little Stones, a little Lou Reed, and even a little of The Monkees. There’s a few bruised ballads and of course a few amped-up bangers. There’s crunchy power cords and catchy vocal harmonies (seriously, just try to listen to “My Boys” without those ba ba bas ear-worming into your mind).

There’s enough talent on this record to make people talk. Important people like the folks at Pitchfork, NME, and Flavorwire. But who cares what they think. Be an independent-minded fucker and go give the album a listen for yourself. Go now. We already loaded the @spotify playlist for you in the is post. Why are you still reading this?

If you made it this far, well, you didn’t listen to us earlier. But perhaps you’re looking for more information so here goes: you can see Chicago’s favorite dudes live this summer (!!!!) and peep the full schedule here. Buy your digital copy of Down In Heaven from iTunes or bathe in the lush sounds of vinyl over in our shop. And there is plenty of sweet sweet merch on the Twin Peaks’ website where you can COLOR ON THE ALBUM COVER! Send us screen grabs of your beautiful art work please.

Esme Patterson shares new single “No River”

Earlier today, Beats 1′s Zane Lowe premiered, “No River,” the new single from Esmé Patterson’s We Were Wild, due on GJ June 10th. Shortly after, Ann Powers extolled the record’s “reconnaissance missions into desire and reconciliation” over in NPR Music’s “Songs We Love Series.” Here’s more of what she had to say:

In “No River,” meanwhile, Patterson challenges others’ presumptions, thrown at her like compliments. “I can’t keep running, I’m no river,” she playfully intones as the song’s breezy rock beat lifts her. The song continues like a young woman’s revision of Donovan’s bubblegum-Zen smash “There Is A Mountain,” only instead of the nature of reality, Patterson’s casting light on the assumption people make about a woman: that she’s inexhaustibly strong — imperturbably strong — yet mysteriously dangerous. “I’m human, I’m human,” she reminds everyone listening, especially herself. “I know that I’m alive today.” With that insistence on feeling the pulse beneath her skin, she frees herself.

Pre-order the album over in the GJ shop, or snag your copy on iTunes.

Elliot Moss shares “Big Bad Wolf” music video

Elliot Moss is back in a big way. His striking new video for “Big Bad Wolf” features a frightful amount of ferrofluid and offers commentary on the “horror and banality of incarceration.”

Watch the full video above or read more about the music video over on Nowness.

Twin Peaks share new single “Holding Roses”

Twin Peaks just released a new single “Holding Roses” and you can give it a listen here. It’s scuzzy. It’s Stones-influenced. It’s Zane Lowe’s choice for today’s World Record on Beats 1!  NPR called the track “charming” with “some good old-fashioned rock ‘n’ roll piano riffs [that] give the song musical depth.” We think it just fucking rocks. Listen for yourself and let us know what you think.

Mothers

Watch Mothers NPR Tiny Desk performancec

Earlier this year, Mothers stopped by the NPR offices to film a Tiny Desk Concert. Now you can watch the live session here. The band played three songs from their debut album When You Walk A Long Distance You Are Tired–“Too Small For Eyes” and “Burden of Proof”– and one unreleased track: “Mother and Wife.” The performance is honest and haunting; equally empowering and introspective. Watch the set and find out for yourself.

And if this inspires you to catch the band live – as it should – they have a fair amount of shows left in the US and abroad. For the full tour schedule, visit our website.

Day Wave

Day Wave share “Stuck” video featuring Mark Hoppus

A punk, a podcast host, an appreciator of the octopus – Blink 182’s Mark Hoppus is many things. Thankfully for us, he is also a fan of Day Wave. The two connected on Twitter after “Drag” appeared on Beats 1 and somehow Jackson convinced Mark to appear in one of his music videos.

And here’s that video, premiered this morning over on Pitchfork. Inspired by this viral YouTube video – “Fr. Roderick watches the Star Wars trailer” (which you should def watch first for context and a few lols) – Jackson teamed up with director Ryan Baxley (FIDLAR, Twin Peaks, Kate Nash) to produce a similar reaction video for “Stuck.” It’s pretty captivating: there’s space boobs, a drunken grizzly bear, and latent existential meaning.

So sit back, relax, take off your pants and jacket and watch the new video to “Stuck.”
