Bio

dad sports who released their debut EP I AM JUST A BOY LEAVE ME ALONE !!! on Grand Jury Music in 2021 have returned with their first new single in over two years, “take yr time.” Their new single eschews the project’s previous guitar-driven songs for a mostly electronic composition; using vocal distortion to create the “guitar” sounds and stretching a lone organ sample to lead the track, the new track is a kissoff to dad sports’ previous work and a transition into this new iteration of the project, which is now solely helmed by Miguel Plante.

Plante considers dad sports’ past work as artifacts of a former self all while wrestling with the notion of letting go; contending with the public’s consumption of those pieces of yourself that no longer feel relevant and finding pride in “take yr time.” Grand Jury Music will be releasing dad sports’ I AM JUST A BOY LEAVE ME ALONE !!! EP on vinyl for the first time, with an expanded tracklisting including early dad sports singles as well as “take yr time.”

I AM JUST A BOY LEAVE ME ALONE !!! followed that series of singles which caught the ear of Spotify, who named the band to their 2021 Radar Artist to Watch lists in both the US & Canada. At press, the band has already earned advance accolades from NPR, FADER, Stereogum & Paste, while getting early spins at Sirius XMU, charting at college radio, and landing on the radar of Annie Mac at BBC Radio 1 and Lauren Laverne at BBC 6 Music in the UK. The EP comes amidst a particularly fertile moment for the young band, who are hard at work on a debut full-length for Grand Jury Music.
