TOLEDO cover Jordana for GJ 10th Anniversary Covers Project
Brooklyn indie folk duo TOLEDO work their magic on a Jordana deep cut today. The latest installment from our 10th Anniversary Covers Project is a take on “I Wanna,” from the 2020 debut album Classical Notions of Happiness.
“We were immediately drawn to Jordana for her musicianship, and for the way her music is able to span all genres,” says Jordan & Dan of TOLEDO. “It’s because of her effective songwriting that we were able to comfortably pull this song into a new space. We were listening to a lot of Yo La Tengo while recording this. We had a ton of fun playing with tape delay and our (fake but official) mellotron. This is also one of our only duets! So far.”
Of course, you’ll remember TOLEDO from their pristine 2022 Grand Jury bow, How It Ends. Their version of “I Wanna” is weightless and fizzy, complimenting the original’s unassuming bedroom pop charms perfectly.
And, speaking of Jordana, she’ll be closing out our cover series early next month with her own installment. Watch this space!
