Rubblebucket share new single “Lemonade”

This is “Lemonade,” another standout from Sun Machine, the forthcoming album from Rubblebucket. It’s their first record for Grand Jury, and a bittersweet work of art. The Brooklyn duo of Alex Toth and Kalmia Traver ended their long-time romantic relationship, but didn’t end their songwriting partnership. The album deftly documents that pain while remaining an often-euphoric celebration of the lasting connection between the duo.

“Lemonade” was written by Toth who notes, “As the lyrics came together I realized I was kind of writing the song from Kal’s perspective, singing to me. I didn’t know what project the song was for (my solo record, a friend’s band, a pop star?) but when Kal and I realized Rubblebucket wasnt ending with our breakup, but gaining new life, this song made perfect sense.”

Tickets are available now for the first leg of dates in support of the album, which is available for pre-order in the shop now.

Hippo Campus share new single “Passenger”, announce Fall US tour

At the stroke of midnight last night, Hippo Campus dropped a new song across the internet alongside an announcement of a massive Fall tour across much of the United States.

Their first new material since last year’s warm glow EP, the standalone-single, “Passenger,” is a pensive, slow-burning indie pop gem. Produced by regular-collaborator BJ Burton (Bon Iver, Sylvan Esso, Francis & The Lights), the song borrows from the more serene and deliberate moments of 2017’s landmark, while showcasing the band’s ever-increasing knack for soaring melody and dynamics.

“Passenger was written in the winter of 2017 after the first four months of touring on landmark,” says singer/guitarist Jake Luppen. “Lyrically the themes deal with the challenges of growing alongside the person you love. For this song in particular I tried to challenge myself to write a more complex chord progression to sing to. I started off with a TR-8 groove and the rest followed pretty naturally.”

It’s fitting the single was written after a stint on the road, as its release heralds another touring announcement: a massive run across the United States in some of the biggest rooms the band has ever played. Indeed, Hippo Campus will be stopping at Terminal 5 in New York City, The Riv in Chicago, Stubbs in Austin, TX and so many more iconic venues that dot the US. They’ll be joined by special guests The Districts each night. Tickets go on sale this Friday. Get them at hippocampusband.com.

Today marks the release of Little Junior’s Hi, AND the music video for album standout “Crooked Tooth.” “My boyfriend was bugging me to write a song about him, and we both have janky teeth,” says songwriter Rane Elliott-Armstrong, “so I wrote a song about loving someone for their imperfections. Sorry babe!” The video shares the same warm heart. See for yourself.

Samia shares “21” music video

We should be used to it by now, but Samia just keeps surprising us. Today we unveil a new single and music video for “21.” The track was produced by John Agnello, and it’s up everywhere you stream music. The video was directed by the whizes over at Hyper House, and The FADER debuted it this morning.

“A raw, electric energy runs through the veins of New York songwriter Samia’s music,” says The FADER. “You can hear it in the way her voice often clambers to a wail before immediately dipping into her lower register, and in the knife-sharp lyricism that slices through “21,” the newest song in a recent string of one-offs.” They’re right. Watch the video now, and if you’re in New York, make it your business to join us This Thursday at Pete’s Candy Store.

Bedstudy share new single “NE1”

Couldn’t be more excited to welcome our friends in Bedstudy to the Grand Jury family. Today we’ve released their new single, “NE1.” The track takes the flickering charm of February’s “Nil” and the woozy stateliness of last year’s “Arms Away” and blasts them both into the most colorful outer space. More from these guys soon.

And of course, Bedstudy will join labelmates Haulm and Elliot Moss later this month for a gig at Public Arts in NYC on May 24th.

Haulm’s debut EP “Stay For Me” out today

Stay For Me, the debut from Haulm, is out now!

Yesterday, KCRW premiered “Clean,” one of the icier moments on the EP.  Much like previous singles, the song’s charm resides in the interplay between producer Reed Kackley’s dusky production and singer JT Norton’s crisp falsetto.

”Haulm are a duo based in Brooklyn who specialize in moody, downtempo electronic song craft,” KCRW says. “The haunting atmosphere they’ve created within the song “Clean,” is what initially drew me in, but what keeps me coming back is the evocative refrain “overage and underpaid, all I do is clean.” It’s a great line set to a deeply hummable melody, which gives me the strong feeling that they will not remain underpaid for long.”

Stay tuned for more from the duo soon.

Little Junior announce new album “Hi”, share video for “I Really Like You”

Today we’ve announce Hi, the debut LP from Toronto power pop gems, Little Junior. Album is coming 5/11, and you can pre-order it now right here. The digital version of the album features a cover of Carly Rae Jepsen’s “I Really Like You,” and today we’ve unveiled an insane shot-for-shot recreation of the original music video. The “sweded” clip features Annie Murphy of Schitt’s Creek playing the role of Tom Hanks, and LJ singer Rane Elliot-Armstrong in the role of Carly.  No, really…

Proceeds from the single will be going to Youth Line, a youth-led organization that provides peer support for LGBTQ2 youth in Toronto. Across Hi, queer songwriter/vocalist Rane Elliot-Armstrong tackles issues of identity and acceptance with a snotty universality, sharpened by his perspective within both the LGBTQ2 and punk rock communities.

The band will be touring in April and May alongside Born Ruffians. Check the tour section for all dates.
